Watch full video as Chelsea welcome players back to Cobham; Brilliant performance by Kepa and Pulisic among others

Another day, another batch of training photos from Cobham as Chelsea’s players continued their pre-season preparations in earnest.

There were 28 players back at the Blues training ground on Monday as Thomas Tuchel had quite a lot more players to work with rather than the four he had last Friday.

There was a new addition on the grass on Monday in the form of Ross Barkley, who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa.

Chelsea’s players were put through a double session on Monday as things ramped up for Tuchel and his staff. With the Blues preparing for a training camp in Ireland on the horizon ahead of the Mind Series of friendlies against Arsenal and Tottenham in early August.

It is believed that Barkley was initially away from the main group doing gym work before joining in with the sessions this morning and this afternoon.

Barkley had an up and down loan spell at Aston Villa last season, starting the campaign strongly for Dean Smith’s side before struggling for game time in the second half of the season.

The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the 2022/23 season and the upcoming couple of weeks in front of the watching on Tuchel could be crucial to Barkley if he is to have any future in west London.

The Italian defender has spent the last two seasons away from Chelsea in Italy with Roma and Genoa, having signed a one-year contract extension in the summer of 2019.

The defender has been a part of the main group since Friday and was snapped on Tuesday in action.

Zappacosta is another player, like Barkley, who will need to impress over the coming couple of weeks if he is to secure a spot in Tuchel’s Premier League squad for next season.

Thomas Tuchel has been given the chance to run the rule over all the players reporting back for pre-season before deciding what their futures are.

He certainly has the stock considering he is the reigning Champions League winning head coach.

Tuchel has been back on the Cobham training pitches watching over his squad and there was another returnee – his cap.

The German has often been seen sporting the head gear in press conferences and during games since taking the reins at Stamford Bridge and once said that he wore them during press conferences as he was having a bad hair day.

Pulisic is one of the early senior stars back at the club alongside Edouard Mendy, Kepa, Hakim Ziyech and Marcos Alonso, who were in the first team setup last season at the club.

Pulisic is being eased back into action after the US won the Nations League earlier this summer, with the Chelsea man netting a vital penalty over Mexico to win the CONCACAF tournament.

Here are a few things we spotted from the latest batch of photos from the training ground as club football returns to the forefront following a summer of international football.
